Christmas has come early for Swn Yr Afon sheltered scheme residents as they get a bumper donation from the local Co-Operative store.

The store, based in Gilfach Goch has donated everything the residents need to make a delicious dinner, including a turkey crown, potatoes, carrots, sprouts and even Christmas pudding for dessert.

Brian Tucker lives in Swn Yr Afon with his wife Doreen. He said: “This is our first Christmas here and it’s been brilliant so far. I’ve been helping out peeling the vegetables today and Doreen and I are cooking the turkey for everyone to enjoy tomorrow.

“There will be around 15 of us sitting down for dinner together, it’s just like one big family.”

The Co-Operative has also donated decorations for the Christmas table, including crackers.

Mark Hitchins, Swn Yr Afon Scheme Manager, said: “A massive thank you to the Co-Operative for this very generous donation and their continued support of the scheme. It’s lovely to see local businesses supporting the community like this.

“I know that having the opportunity to sit and eat Christmas dinner with their neighbours will mean so much to the residents.”
