Whilst schools are closed, Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council has made changes to the way those entitled to free school meals receive them.
If your child is entitled to free school meals, they may be currently receiving a cold meal provision for breakfast and lunch that is being collected from the school each weekday (Monday – Friday). This will continue until Friday 3rd April.
From Monday 6th April, this will be changing.
Instead of collecting food packages from the school, there will be a cash payment transferred into the parent/carer’s bank account. This will be taking place on a weekly basis, with payments being made every Monday.
Within RCT, the amount being paid per child is £3.90 a day, which is a total of £19.50 per week. This payment is instead of a free school meal and the parent/carer of the child is expected to use this money to buy food for their child.
The Council is sending letters out to all those with children that are entitled to the free school meals. Once the parent/carer has received the letter, they will need to re-apply for the scheme in order to receive the cash payment.
