Josh, a mechanical design engineer from Tonyrefail has been revealed as the first of a series of Trivallis’ Hometown Heroes. Hometown Heroes are nominated by people who live and work across RCT for their heroic efforts to support their communities at this challenging time.

Throughout the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, there have been many stories about shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE), where frontline workers have discussed the dangers they face if they do not have access to the PPE they need to complete their roles safely.

Josh said “after hearing the stories of people in need of PPE and having issues accessing it, including my neighbour who works in a care home, I decided I wanted to help and began printing visors to help keep them safe.”

Josh works as a mechanical design engineer and is currently working from home. In his free time, he has been using his 3D printer to create visors for those who need them.

So far, Josh has created around 150-200 visors, which take around an hour to print. These visors have been donated to local care homes, Llwynypia hospital, a hospice in Cardiff caring for patients with the virus and other key workers who reached out to Josh when he posted about creating the visors on his social media profile.

Josh has been creating the visors since the beginning of the outbreak and has covered the cost of the materials himself, even purchasing an additional printer to keep up with the demand he faces.

Jonny, who nominated Josh said: “He (Josh) doesn’t see himself as a hero, he just wanted to provide help where he could, he thinks the people on the frontline are the real heroes.”

A big thanks to Josh for all his hard work and the continued support he is providing to those in communities across RCT. You are a true hero!

In true hero fashion, Josh wants to keep his mask on and his picture hidden, but his friend Jonny who nominated him had this message for us…
