Trivallis has developed 14 new, affordable homes in Dinas, Porth.
The Appletree Avenue development is a £1.4million investment in the area, funded by the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant.
Sarah Kirton, Development Manager at Trivallis, said: “The site at Appletree Avenue was previously occupied by two large blocks of maisonettes that suffered from high levels of anti-social behaviour and weren’t considered to be fit for purpose any longer. The properties were demolished back in 2015 to make way for this new development.”
Appletree Avenue comprises of four, two-storey buildings, with one flat per floor. The southern block is made up of three linked two-storey buildings with an L-shaped layout, with one one-bed flat per floor; each flat with its own access.
Design and construction works were carried out by WRW Construction.
Sarah added: “The development has faced several challenges, especially this year with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are extremely proud of these new homes and the difference they will make to the community here in Dinas. We would like to thank all of our partners who have worked with us on this project, in particular, WRW, RCTCBC and Welsh Government.”
The new homes meet Welsh Government Design Quality Requirements and Lifetime Homes Standards; a series of sixteen design criteria intended to make homes more easily adaptable for lifetime use at minimal cost.
As part of the development stage, Trivallis partnered up with local education providers Coleg Y Cymoedd and Penrhys Primary School to give students the opportunity to visit site and see the process involved in building homes.
Lisa Roberts, Community Projects Officer at Trivallis, said: “We want to help not only build homes, but to build the aspirations of young people in our communities, too. It is so important to open young minds to the world of housing and the potential opportunities there are for work in the sector.
“A big thanks goes to the team at WRW Construction for taking the time to show the students around and answer their questions.”
Completion of this development comes as Trivallis also announces handover of its scheme in Forge Lane, Pentre.
