School children in Penrhys have been busy sharing festive cheer by creating Christmas cards to give to residents of a Trivallis sheltered scheme.
Cards were designed by the pupils for each resident of Trivallis’ Nebo Sheltered Scheme in Ystrad with the aim of reducing loneliness over the Christmas period.
Alix Howells, Community Project Officer at Trivallis, said: “The idea stemmed from a meeting I was in with the Sheltered Housing Team. We were discussing how there have been tenants who have struggled with feeling lonely and isolated throughout the pandemic and we wanted to bring them some festive cheer; especially at a time where many will be unable to see their families.
“I approached Rebecca, the Foundation Phase Leader at Penrhys Primary School, to see if they would be happy to get involved and have the children design Christmas cards to give to members of our sheltered scheme. When I mentioned this idea to her, she could not wait to get involved!”
Children at the school created a card for each of the residents in the scheme and a few extra to ensure everyone received a little bit of Christmas spirit.
Alix continued: “We were very conscious of safety measures and that the process was completed in line with Government guidelines. Once the Christmas cards were ready, Rebecca gathered them in a box at the school, sealed and dated it and left it to quarantine for 72 hours.
“I picked up the box of cards and transported it to Nebo, leaving the cards for Phil Thomas, Scheme Manager, to distribute in time for Christmas.”
The residents at Nebo sheltered scheme were very grateful to receive their Christmas cards from the school children, a little something to put a smile on their face and brighten up their Christmas.
Alix said: “We love working in partnership with Penrhys Primary School and the Sheltered Team to bring a smile to the residents of Nebo!”
