A one-off £500 payment is available to all eligible unpaid carers who were receiving Carer’s Allowance on 31 March 2022.
The payment is being made due to the ongoing financial pressures that many unpaid carers are facing and have faced during the pandemic, in the hope that that it will help with some of the additional costs they have incurred.
Those who receive Carer’s Allowance provide over 35 hours of care each week and are on the lowest of incomes. The payment will not impact any other benefits you may be receiving.
You are eligible for this one-off payment if:
- You were receiving Carer’s Allowance on 31st March 2022
- Your application for Carer’s Allowance is in progress and your claim is backdated to 31 March 2022
- You live in Wales
You are not eligible if:
- You have an underlying entitlement to Carer’s Allowance, but do not receive a payment because you are in receipt of another benefit at the same or higher rate
- You only receive a carer premium within a means tested benefit
To claim this payment, you must register via your local council’s website, over the phone, or in person. All registration forms must be received before 5pm on 15 July 2022. The council will pay successful claims by 30th September 2022.
