Get creative this summer and give these simple to make, salt dough starfish a go at home!

What you will need:

– 2 cups Flour

– 2 cups Salt

– 2 cups Water

How to make:

Step 1: Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl until thoroughly combined. Knead for 5 minutes until the dough softens (if sticky after a few minutes try adding more flour).

Step 2: To create the starfish shape, start with a ball of dough and gently pull five ‘blobs’ evenly spaced from around the centre to become the arms.

Step 3: Now gently pull on each of the arms to stretch them out and make them look like a starfish. A useful tip is to gently roll each arm to make it more circular.

Step 4: Now comes the fun part! This is where you can go crazy and customize the starfish however you like. We used a pencil to create small holes, we added some small balls of dough to others to give them a bumpy look and pinched the dough with our fingers to add more texture.

Step 5: Once you’ve finished shaping and texturizing your starfish, you can either let them air dry over a few days or for those who are impatient you can bake them in the oven. Place them in the oven and bake on 180 degrees for 1 hour, if after the hour they’re still not hard to touch place them back in the oven, and regularly check on them until hardened.

Step 6: After the starfish have cooled you can either leave them plain or paint them like we did.
