Trivallis and the University of South Wales (USW) formed a partnership seven years ago. The partnership involves allowing students currently studying on the surveying course at the university, access to Trivallis’ void properties for surveying practice which in turn contributes to them achieving their qualification.

While on site the students get a first-hand insight from industry professionals at Trivallis, learning about legal requirements that need to be met by landlords, how to meet lettings standards, looking out for structural defects and asbestos in properties and much more. They are then given floorplans of the property and are free to survey the site themselves, which will then contribute to their coursework.

Lee Tapper, Surveyor at Trivallis said: “This has been an exciting long-standing partnership between Trivallis and the University of South Wales. I always enjoy coming out to one of our properties with the students and talking them through the processes’ we use and what to look out for when surveying a property, I hope they find it beneficial and get something out of it.

It’s been great to be involved with a partnership project like this especially as we’ve had some past students on this course go on to work for Trivallis once graduating, it’s great to see someone come full circle.”

Grant Avon, Lecturer of Building Surveying at USW added: “The work the guys are getting to do today thanks to Trivallis, will form part of their Management of Buildings module and a part of that is carrying out a conditions survey on a house.

“Opportunities like this are great because we can see where they’re struggling now and make sure we correct that before they get out into the real working world, that’s thanks to Trivallis and staff who join us on days like this. It’s a valuable opportunity for the students to get some real-world experience and see how things are done to a professional standard.”

Trivallis wishes all of those students currently studying the best of luck for the remainder of your studies, we’re sure you’ll all go on to achieve successful careers in the future.
