Throughout the winter months, you may find yourself looking for festive days out or ideas on how to keep the family busy when you’re at home hiding away from the weather.

Take a look at some of the suggestions below:

Christmas markets – You can find most Christmas markets in the bigger cities, and a walk around will really get you into the festive spirit. With lots to sample, buy, eat and drink, why not visit your local Christmas market?

Winter Wonderland – With ice skating, fairground rides and games, lots to eat and drink, and festive music, take a walk-through Winter Wonderland in Cardiff when the weather gets cold.

Visit Santa – Find your local Santa’s grotto and take your little ones to meet the big guy in the red suit. If you’re looking for something different many restaurants and hotels offer breakfast or lunch with Santa.

Bake a cake – Get your apron on, the ingredients out of the cupboard and get baking. Try making a cake or cookies as a sweet treat when the weather is cold outside. If baking isn’t for you, why not try cooking a winter warmer soup?

Winter walk – Venture outside and go on a walk around your neighbourhood or use a local walking trail. It might be cold but wrap up warm and head outside to get some fresh air.

Quiz night –Whether the theme is Hanukkah, Christmas, or general knowledge and if it’s taking place at home or at your local quiz night, get together with family and friends for some quizzing fun.

Get crafting – If you like arts and crafts or fancy trying something new, make the most of being indoors and make your own greetings cards or create a calendar for the new year.

Watch a pantomime – At this time of the year, many theatres put on pantomimes for all to enjoy. Take a look at your local theatre or ones located in cities and see what shows they have on.

Candle making – Celebrate Diwali – the festival of light, by melting down old candle wax or crayons and create your own candles to light. It’s a great way to celebrate and recycle your old candles or crayons that are no longer being used.

Movie marathon – Get your favourite snacks at the ready and have a cosy night in watching all your favourite films. To get in the holiday spirit, choose your favourite themed films to add into the mix.

Christmas lights – Visit your local Christmas light event as they switch them on. Some cities have Christmas light trails that you can book tickets for or simply take a walk through your neighbourhood one evening and look at the decorations in your area.

Games night – Everyone loves a board game, and they provide hours or fun. Get your favourite games and snacks out of the cupboard and get together with friends or family to play some games.

There is lots of fun to have, even if the weather has become colder. Give one of our ideas a go and share with us on social media. Tag us in your post @WeAreTrivallis, we’d love to see what you’re up to.
