Module 1 – Necessary steps to move on and what support is available

Necessary steps to move on and what support is available is a 2-hour Bitesize session. The session focuses on identifying what are the next steps to moving on, by preparing and completing a guide check list. During the session we will discuss a variety of support that is available when moving on and where we can access that support. We will also be completing a personal support plan to help identify any areas that the learner feels they need help with when moving on.

During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts as well as engaging as a group in various activities.

Learning Aims for the Session:

  • To identify what are the necessary steps to moving on.
  • To identify what support is available when moving on.
  • To find out what to expect on day of sign up and who can help.

Objectives:

  • Completing work packs and activities to identify steps and support available.
  • Completing a guide check list for moving in.
  • Identifying the role of a housing officer and viewing a sign-up video.
  • Complete a personal support plan.
  • Mapping out our own personal “journey” to identify what’s next for us.

Module 2 – Homefinder and Properties available

Module 2 Homefinder and properties available is a 2-hour Bitesize session that focuses on identifying suitable properties via Homefinder and the private rented sector. During the session as a group, we will be looking at the Homefinder website and online websites to support us with our move on.

We will also be discussing who is currently supporting us with our move on, what support is available as well as the different types of accommodation available to us.  During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts as well as engaging as a group in various activities.

Learning Aims for the Session:

  • To identify suitable properties and accommodations available to us
  • To understand where we can find these suitable properties

Objectives:

  • Completing work packs to understand how to move on
  • Using the Homefinder website to understand Housing applications
  • Using online websites to understand the Private rented sector
  • Discussing current and future support to move on
  • Viewing a void property to manage expectations

Module 3– ASB & Landlord Disputes

Module 3 ASB & Landlord disputes is a 2-hour Bitesize session that focuses on identifying what exactly Anti-Social Behaviour is/how can it impact your tenancy and what support is available when dealing with ASB. During the session as a group, we will be looking examples of ASB and Landlord disputes through a series of case studies and scenarios that allow us to identify support in difficult situations. We will also be discussing the consequences of ASB and who is affected, focusing on neighbours, relationships, and tenancy agreements. During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts as well as engaging as a group in various activities.

Learning Aims for the Session:

  • To understand what is expected of us in our tenancy
  • To identify what is ASB vs what is not considered ASB
  • To understand the impact, it has on your tenancy
  • To identify support and organisations that can help us when dealing with ASB

Objectives:

  • Completing work packs to understand what is ASB?
  • Engaging as a group in role play and completing case studies
  • Identifying support in our tenancy and in the community
  • Understanding tenancy notices and sections

Module 4 – Understand a Tenancy Agreement

Module 4 is a 2-hour Bitesize session that focuses on understanding what is a Tenancy Agreement and our rights as a tenant.  During the session as a group, we will be looking at the content of a tenancy agreement and Tenant and Landlord responsibilities. During the course we will also be completing a series of case studies and scenarios that allow us to identify support in difficult situations.

We will also be discussing the changes that will occur from Renting Homes Wales on 15th July and how those changes will impact in our tenancies. During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts as well as engaging as a group in various activities.

Learning Aims for the Session:

  • To understand what a tenancy agreement is
  • To understand the importance of a tenancy agreement
  • To understand what is expected of us in our tenancy
  • To identify our rights and responsibilities as a tenant
  • To understand the rights and responsibilities of a landlord
  • To identify support and organisations that can help us in our tenancy

Objectives:

  • Completing work packs to understand rights and responsibilities
  • Looking at the content of a tenancy agreement
  • Looking at changes from Renting Homes Wales
  • Engaging as a group in role play and completing case studies
  • Identifying support available in our tenancy

Module 5 – Money managing, bills, and budgeting

Module 5 is a 2-hour Bitesize session that focuses on identifying potential bills in our next tenancy and how to manage our monies. This is achieved by learning budgeting tools and tips to manage our finances.  

During the course we will be completing a financial expenditure which will allow us to prioritise bills and maximise our income. We will also identify services that can support us with budgeting / grants as well as supporting us in financial hardship. During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts as well as engaging as a group in activities. 

Learning aims for the Session: 

  • To identify potential bills in our next tenancy 
  • To identify services available to support us financially 
  • To understand how to manage financially in our next tenancy 

Objectives: 

  • Completing work packs and group activities  
  • Completing a financial expenditure form  
  • Discussing services available to support in financial hardship  
  • By prioritising bills and outgoings

Module 6 – Benefits and grants for you

Module 6 is a 2-hour Bitesize session that focuses on identifying what benefits are available to us to help us financially prepare for our tenancy. We will also identify grants that are available for financial support. As a group we will also discuss services and websites that can support us with grants as well as support available to us in financial hardship.  

During the session we will be completing work packs and handouts and engaging in group discussions and activities.

  • To identify grants, we may be entitled to 
  • To identify services available to support us financially 
  • To understand how to manage financially in our next tenancy 

Objectives: 

  • Completing work packs and handouts 
  • Discussing and understanding Universal Credit & Housing cost
  • Discussing services available to support us with applications
