Brenda Davies has taken the top spot in the 2018 Fernhill Good Gardens competition.
After living in the area since 1993, she has devoted lots of time to making her outdoor space a place filled with colour and where she can relax.
On winning the competition, Brenda said: “I’m so chuffed to have won. When I moved here in 1993 the garden was pretty overgrown so I, slowly but surely, made it into somewhere I can relax and enjoy.”
Brenda’s garden is filled with flowers, fruit trees including a grape vine and features a relaxing water feature. She added: “In the past I’ve entered a few competitions and even came second in the RCT in bloom competition a few years ago. My favourite flowers in my garden are the lilies.”
The Fernhill Good Gardens competition was organised by the FAR office, along with Lisa Doe Trivallis’ Neighbourhood Manager for the area. First prize was a £50 shopping voucher.
When asked what she will be spending the prize money on, Brenda said: “I’ll probably go up to the new Trago Mills shop and treat myself to some new gardening tools.”
If you are a Trivallis customer, as part of your tenancy agreement your garden is your responsibility to keep safe and tidy.
Here, Brenda has shared her top 3 tips for a winning garden:
- Don’t try and do too much in one go. Keep chipping away at it, little and often, and it won’t seem like too much of a chore.
- Make sure you have somewhere nice to sit back and admire your handiwork, a simple stool or wooden bench will do the trick.
- Enjoy it. Being outside is so good for health and wellbeing, so do what you can but most importantly make your garden a space that you love being in.
