Investing in our sheltered housing complexes
Trivallis manages over 20 sheltered housing schemes throughout Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Sheltered housing enables residents to live completely independently in their own flats or bungalows but to share social activities.
Trivallis has twice received accreditation from the national Centre for Housing and Support for its sheltered housing service. This award confirms that our sheltered housing service meets nationally recognised best practice standards.
We want to make sure our schemes reach the same high standard as our service. That’s why we announced that Trivallis’ sheltered housing schemes would receive the biggest investment and refurbishment they have had in more than 30 years.
Most of our sheltered housing schemes were designed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. None of them were built with lifts, little provision was made for access for people with disabilities and a large number of the flats were bedsits (with residents having to share bathrooms at the end of a corridor).
The investment is making sure that all schemes that need them have lifts and improved access for people with disabilities.
The schemes are also benefiting from an internal refurbishment programme that includes new furniture and improved fire safety standards.
Bedsits have been converted into spacious one and two bedroom flats with bathrooms.
Many of our schemes are refurbished to RNIB Visibly Better Standards. This standard recognises the work done to the building and environment of the complexes to make them accessible to people with sight loss. We have archived Platinum and Gold standards at many of our complexes, and are working hard to ensure all our complexes meet these high standards.
We have already invested more than £15 million in our sheltered housing schemes and we are still improving our accommodation for older tenants.
