New sheltered scheme is ‘archetype for what should be rolled out across Wales’
A mixture of 25 one bed and 7 two bedroom apartments make up the scheme, as well as a range of communal facilities including a wellbeing room, a laundry, a communal lounge, a rooftop terrace and landscaped gardens.
This is the first new build sheltered scheme from Trivallis, which has over 24 different schemes spread across Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Owen Smith, MP for Pontypridd visited the scheme and said: “People in our area deserve excellent quality housing and this [Trem-Y-Cwm] is an archetype for what we need to see rolled out across Wales.
“The fact it has such great communal spaces is vital and it’s a model for what the housing sector should be doing. Warm congratulations to Trivallis and everyone involved in developing this scheme.”
Colleen Cooper is 67 and has moved into one of the 2 bed properties in Trem Y Cwm, she said: “I am over the moon with my new home.
“I lived in Pontypridd for many years but recently struggled to afford the mortgage on my own so I decided to look into other options and went along to the first scheme viewing. When I saw the scheme I immediately fell in love with it and put my name down straight away.
“My daughter loves coming to visit and says it’s like a really posh hotel! I feel so comfortable here already.”
Sarah Kirton, development officer at Trivallis, said: “This scheme is a testament of what can be achieved when people work together. The team has really taken care of the finer details so that our customers can live in quality homes.
“We employed an interior designer to make sure that we delivered the highest quality accommodation and have incorporated the best principles of Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements to ensure that the development fully meets their Lifetime Homes standard.
“All areas in the scheme are wheelchair accessible with widened doorways, widened corridors and lift access. Bathrooms in each apartment have been fitted with two access points – one from the hallway and one from the bedroom - for ease of access and hygiene requirements and all are equipped with a walk-in, level access shower.
“Feedback on the scheme has been absolutely fantastic and it is clear that everyone is as proud of the new scheme as we are.”
